FALL into the new season!

By Elisa Posniack, Publisher Mac KID NW Bergen County, NJ September 19, 2022
FALL officially begins on  September 22nd. Wait! That is THIS Thursday?!  How did that happen? Especially when it feels more like Summer. This date marks the start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere.

You may think you can keep the flip flops on, but be sure to keep a pair of light boots and the universal denim jacket in your car, for those cool nights which are upon us. Always best to be prepared. I think we all know that women are usually best at carrying every season of clothing/accessories in their car!

With the changing season comes the opportunity for lots of fun seasonal family activities. Here are a few ideas I think your family will "FALL" for!

F - Football Watching! Fill a thermos full of hot chocolate, put on some hoodies and pack a few blankets to sit in the bleachers to watch a game! It's a great way to get involved in your community by supporting your NW Bergen County town's high school team or make it a road trip to see a professional football game!

A - Apple & Pumpkin Picking! Nothing says fall more than apples and pumpkins. Find a "pick your own" orchard or pumpkin patch (think Secor in Mahwah or Abma's In Wyckoff for example) and stock up on both for yummy treats and holiday decorations. Apples are great for making pies, breads and sauces and pumpkins can be carved, painted and stacked to bring a little fall to your front steps.

L - Leaf Pile Jumping! Admit it, even as a parent, you love to jump in the leaves! Make a big pile in your backyard or at the park. We bet the kids will be even more willing to help piles leaves once they know that there's jumping at the end. Makes a great holiday card picture!  Capture the moment. You'll be glad you did.

L - Let the slow cooker handle dinner! After your full, FALL days, you will be ready for a good, old-fashioned meal. Fall is a great time to pull out the slow cooker or air fryer. While you're out enjoying the changing colors and cooler temperatures, dinner is preparing itself!
