How to stay safe while having fun both at home and in your local neighborhoods.

I always like to put a positive spin during the most difficult circumstances. This year that is definitely more challenging. We don't need more scares and we definitely do not need another mask!  How can we keep Halloween engaging and family friendly this year? There are actually many ways to enjoy in a safe and fun manner!

If you choose to stay home this Halloween, there is still so much to do and the fact that Halloween falls out on a weekend, makes it easier to have fun at home with your family.

1) Make "boo-face treats," using marshmallows for the face, candy corn for the nose and junior mints for the eyes and mouth. Gobble up, but remember to wash your sticky hands afterwards, before taking charge of the remote control for scary movie night!

2) Rent/Watch classic movies such as Hocus Pocus; Halloween (for the adults and older teens); and the original or remake of the classic "Addams Family!"

3) Dress up in costume. Who doesn't like to do this? I know it gives me a chance to be a red head for the day/night.

4)Take a Halloween Hike! While this may be during the day, the fall air is crisp and gives you a head start on burning calories ahead of your homemade treats fest later that night.

5) Trunk and Treat. Many neighborhoods will be hosting trunk or treats, whereby you go up to a friend's/neighbor's  car trunk and take a piece of candy (or two or three). This is a fun and safe alternative to traditional trick or treating.

Day After sales:

I find great sales every year (online and in store), the day AFTER Halloween!

Party City has many costumes on sale up to 50% off

Local Retailers such as CVS, Walgreens and local supermarkets will also likely have candy reduced up to 50%, and up to 75% off, in the week that follows. I like to buy bags of candy to donate to local food pantries. It may not be the healthiest option but its only once a year, right?!

Actually, in many stores you can also find healthier options on sale. Brands such as Annie's Snacks, Yum Earth and Enjoy Life carry allergy friendly holiday products.

Stock up after Halloween for all year round healthy snacking!

Enjoy,

Elisa
